• Diploma in Physics, Faculty of Physics, University of Bucharest (1984).
• Doctor in Physics, Specialty: Geophysics, Faculty of Physics, University of Bucharest (1999) with the thesis "Ocean-atmosphere interaction in Atlantic related to regional climate variability".

Present position: Head of Seasonal Outlook Group/Climatology and Agro-meteorology Department, National Meteorological Administration, Bucharest, Romania.

Research domains:

  • studies of North Atlantic Oscillation in the climate variability and change perspective;

  • climate prediction for the Atlantic-European region;
    ocean-atmosphere interaction;

  • studies of regional and local climate in the sustainable development perspective for Romania.

  • Scientific manager of Romanian team associated to several projects granted by the European Union ("Integration of Remote Sensing, in situ Observation and Numerical Modelling Applied to the Northeast Atlantic", in the framework of the HCM/PECO Programme (1995-1996); DYNAMITE in the 6th Framework Programme (2005-2008); IPY-CARE in the 6th Framework Programme (2005-2007).


  • Collaboration in developing Implementation Plan for the project Small Pelagic Fishes and Climatic Change (SPACC), in the framework of Global Ocean-Ecosystem Dynamics (a core programme of the International Geosphere/Biosphere Programme) (1995) and Science Plan for the EuroGLOBEC (1997).


  • Member in the Romanian representative team at WMO/IOC/ICSU CONFERENCE ON THE WCRP CLIMATE VARIABILITY AND PREDICTABILITY STUDY (CLIVAR), UNESCO, Paris, 2-4 December 1998;
    Invited expert in Working Group I at the SECOND SCOPING MEETING FOR THE IPCC FOURTH ASSESSMENT REPORT Potsdam, Germany, 1-4 September 2003.
